We meet for dinner and a presentation by a guest speaker each month with the exceptions of March, August, September, and December.
Our monthly meetings are usually at St. Augustine by-the-Sea, 1227 4th Street, Santa Monica (between Arizona & Wilshire Blvd.)
Generally, we meet on the Tuesday before the third Thursday of the month. (But be sure and check the Events Calendar to confirm date and place – and to make your reservation!)
We begin
at 6:00 with Wet Flies (a no host bar) and, typically, a fly tying
demonstration by that night's speaker. Dinner and a raffle follow at
7:00, then we conclude the evening with the speaker's presentation.
Members and nonmembers alike are welcome. And while we prefer that you make a reservation in advance, it is not absolutely necessary.*
As
for the months that don't feature a speaker, March is when WFF holds
its annual Super Auction. This is our principal fund raiser and a great time to shake the winter blahs by placing the winning bid on
a trip to your dream fly fishing destination. (Not to worry, there is
no shortage of adventures to choose from. Outfitters and lodges from around the world donate trips to our auction.)
Or
you can go toe to toe with your fellow fly fishers to see who places
the winning bids for the most toys (AKA state of the art equipment
donated by top manufacturers.)
You
can also restore yourself to your significant other’s good graces by
winning one of our Lifestyle items: fine wines, dinner at one of our
local, world-class restaurants, theater tickets, etc.
All
of which you can easily justify because the funds we raise at the March
Super Auction will go to the very important conservation and education
efforts of both local and regional organizations. Not to mention
supporting activities like our own Trout In The Classroom!
We don't hold a meeting in August because we figure everyone is off fishing. (And if they're not – they should be!)
That's
why in September the Club hosts its annual "Show and Tell" evening when
members share slides and videos of their summer fly fishing
experiences. And although we don't feature a guest speaker at this
meeting, many members feel it is one of the most fun events of the year!
December,
as you might guess, is when the Club celebrates with its Holiday Party.
This is typically hosted by one of our members at their home. In
addition to great food and drink, it is also the time we welcome our
incoming President – and thank the outgoing President for all of his (or
her) efforts on our behalf.
Our
Holiday Party is also the time we a present a member (or members) with
the Gray LaFontaine Award to honor them for their service to the club.
And to cap the evening, we have our Super Raffle drawing, giving
participants a chance at winning first class gear and fabulous fly
fishing trips!
Membership and/or participation in all these events are open to everyone.* To find out more about upcoming programs check the Events Calendar. For more information, please don't hesitate to Contact Us.
*Please
note that Olympic Connection policy dictates that any member or guest
wishing to enter into any part of a meeting or event being conducted at
